Internships for Law Students (MLK Internships)

The Martin Luther King Jr. program allows law students to spend 10 weeks as paid legal interns at Legal Aid of North Carolina. The MLK intern for the Farmworker Unit will be working directly with clients and helping them address a wide variety of needs. Under the supervision of an attorney, the MLK law intern will be responsible for case support in current litigation, interviewing new clients, supporting community education efforts, working with case teams, and attending staff meetings. In addition, when in-person outreach resumes, the intern will be expected to accompany experienced staff on outreach to migrant labor camps a couple of evenings per week. Spanish fluency and a valid driver’s license are required. The 10-week stipend is currently $3,500.00.

Students from North Carolina law schools should apply through their school’s career services office. Applicants MUST specify a preference for field office(s) and/or statewide project(s) (see below) in their cover letter AND list those preferences under Other Documents section when applying in Simplicity.

Students from law schools in other states should apply directly to Legal Aid by sending a cover letter, résumé, and writing sample (10 pages or less) by email to Suzanne Chester at SuzanneC2@legalaidnc.org.
